ABOUT OUR GENETIC LEGACY

Our Genetic Legacy is a non-profit educational publishing house focused on amplifying the voices and lives of Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) Americans in the first American history books written by and about BIPOC American pioneers. Our stories. Our voices.

Our Genetic Legacy website

OVERVIEW OF PROJECT

The goal of this project is to diversify the official storyline of America to include the contributions of Black, Indigenous and People of Color to the building of America. We will do this by using DNA to find the oldest documentable ancestor of our participants. Participants are chosen by nomination and application on the website. Our ideal candidate is a non-celebrity member of the BIPOC community. The family legacy is then put in historical context and presented to the participant who then writes a letter featuring the life of their ancestor using a curriculum designed to be completed in 14 days. We will publish a new history book each year documenting 25 stories. Our first American history book will be released in February 2022.

WAYS TO PARTICIPATE

We need expert level researcher volunteers to assist in using traditional and genetic genealogist to create trees, compile historical primary source documentatio around selected themes in American history. Please see the discussion thread for specific requests or email contact@ourgeneticlegacy.org to volunteer directly.
