Find a Grave

The Department of Veterans Affairs purchased 374 acres in Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado in January 2015 for construction of a new national cemetery. It is the third national cemetery in Colorado and expected to serve the burial needs for over 95,000 veterans, their spouses and eligible dependents with many of the first burials expected to be cremains of those waiting for the new cemetery to be opened and transfers of remains from other national cemeteries.

The cemetery was dedicated in May of 2018 and on November 1, 2018 the first burials were conducted. The cremains of one veteran each from the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines ( SMSGT Charles Joyner, U.S. Air Force; PFC James Grant, U.S. Army; SN Joseph Romero, U.S. Navy; and MSGT Kurt Krause, U.S. Marine Corps) were laid to rest with military honors and the tolling of the honor bell.
