Profiles

This project is designed to assist in finding the origins of place names and who they were named after/dedicated to.

Often the property developer will name a place, either after a loved one, or where they used to call home. This project will not only list the place name but who it was named after of by, if of significant importance.

If you need help locating them on the tree, or verification please start a discussion here..

  • Ferryden Park - The name Ferryden derives from a seaport village on the fringe of Montrose in Scotland. This was the port from which the family of the suburb's founder, William Duthie, emigrated in the 1850s. The suburb contains many street names deriving from traditional Scottish place and family names, such as Montrose, Orkney, Nairn, McDonald, McRostie and Lachlan. Ferryden Park was formed in 1924 by a subdivision of part section 398 of the Hundred of Yatala by William Duthie, dairy man of an area of land known as Tam O'Shanter Belt. (cannot place him with the Duthie's that came from Scottland yet)
