The Pritzker family is a large family that was formed in a small village outside of Kiev named Velikie Pritsky. The Surname originated as a title or nickname for a man named Abel who was known as "Der Pritzker" because he had likely migrated from outside Russia, from where is not known. One theory is that the Pritzkers were originally Sephardic Jews.
One family story goes that the original Pritzkers were from a community of Sephardic merchants who settled outside of Kiev, likely originally from Turkey or Syria.
