The Old "Ninety-Six" District of South Carolina was created (original) in 1769 and was abolished in 1798. (The 96th Dist. from 1785 to 1798 consisted of present day Union Co.)
It consisted of (present-day) Abbeville Co. (formed 1785)

Deed Book Y-4 pgs.146-148 Charleston. Lease and Release - 18th & 19th Nov. 1776 David Pruit of Camden Dist., S.C. and Sarah, his wife, to Nathaniel Cobb of same, for 100 lbs. SC money, 100 acres in Craven County on a branch of Sandy River called Caney Fork adj. John Evans, Benjamin Carter, Edmond Russel, granted to Richard Warring 23 Dec. 1771 and conveyed by Richard Warring to said David Pruet 16 Oct 1775. David Pruit (X) [LS] Sarah Pruit (X) [LS]. I'm wondering if there were earlier or later connections between the Pruit and Cobb families and if you know who this David Pruet was and where he came from. I noticed that you said something about being from Forsyth Co, GA...and part of this Nathaniel Cobbs family moved there in the early 1800s...most are gone from there, if not all but some went to AL...which is where my grandparents were from. Thanks for any ideas. Also do you know who Edmond Russell was and where he might have come from? I've found these Cobbs and others who are genetically linked to also marry Russell girls later in the mid to late 1800s.
