The main cemetery in Tauranga is Pyes Pā Cemetery, located at 403 Pyes Pā Road. Historic cemeteries in Tauranga are now only used for reserve plot burials and ash interments, except for the Presbyterian Cemetery in Eighteenth Avenue. The first cremation and ash burial in Pyes Pā Memorial Park was Stephen Robert Solley (1885-1966) who died on 18 November 1966 age 81. The first burial was Francis Charles Hammond (1887-1967) who died on 30 January 1967 aged 79.
