This project is a meeting place for users who share the R1a1a1 Mitochondrial DNA haplogroup, which means they are related along their maternal lines. Users in this group may want to share their family trees with each other to find overlaps and merge duplicate profiles in order to join or expand the World Family Tree and discover new relatives.

- Haplogroup R (mtDNA) is the main subclade of N, the one that was to generate the 6 most common European haplogroups (H, V, J, T, U, K). R subclades are numbered from R0 to R31. Most of them are found in Asia. R1a (not to be confused with the homonymous Y-chromosome haplogroup) is found among the Adygei people from the North Caucasus (related to the Maykop culture => see R1b section), Brahmins from northern India, northwestern Russians and Poles - basically all people closely related with the Indo-European expansion.
