  • Haplogroup R (mtDNA) is the main subclade of N, the one that was to generate the 6 most common European haplogroups (H, V, J, T, U, K). R subclades are numbered from R0 to R31. Most of them are found in Asia. R1a (not to be confused with the homonymous Y-chromosome haplogroup) is found among the Adygei people from the North Caucasus (related to the Maykop culture => see R1b section), Brahmins from northern India, northwestern Russians and Poles - basically all people closely related with the Indo-European expansion.
