A project to create a comprehensive family tree for the Rhoodie's of South Africa.
In "Die Groot Afrikaanse Familienaamboek" (1983 Edition, p.274), Cor Pama writes about the origins of the Roode/Roodt/Rhoodie families, by introducing these two progenitors: (see project photographs for original text)
(1) Daniel Rood(t) * 1725 † 1811 x Martha Johanna Bastiaansz xx Anna Catharina Robertsz xxx Johanna Christina Heger; and
(2) Johannes Christia(a)n Roode * c. 1721 † 1767 x Clara Maria Buys xx Hester Cellier.
Helmoed Hartwig Roode (a grandson of (2)) * 19.9.1784 † 5.5.1811 and his second wife, had a son, Andreas Eschild Rhoode * 7.9.1827 x "Swartland" 23.3.1863 Anna Christina Bauermeister. Andreas Eschel (as he was commonly known) was a saddle-maker in Piketberg.
Pama continues by stating that the three sons from this marriage - and possibly also Andreas Eschel himself, changed their surname to Rhoodie and thus became the "progenitors" of the Rhoodie family in South Africa.
"UNLINKED" Rhoodies
The project includes the profiles of a couple of Rhoodie's I could not (yet) connect to the main Rhoodie tree. Any assistance in this respect is warmly invited and much appreciated.
Some of these may in fact prove to be from related families (Rohde, Rood(t), Roode, etc.) and thus should be removed from this project altogether.
