In researching my family tree I have found ancestors who owned slaves in Barbados. I was able to view digitized records in Ancestry that provided details on the enslaved people, but nowhere to really link them to my tree. As a result, I thought I'd start a project to identify these people and their owners with the hope that a future user may be able to find information on their enslaved ancestors.

Emancipation occurred in Barbados in 1834. For two decades before that time, special slave censuses, which are held at The National Archives (Kew, England), were kept. Slaves are identified by given name under their masters. If you can identify your ancestor's master, this source will prove of tremendous value to your research.
