The purpose of this project is to keep track of all the Baker families within South Africa. This the surname Baker and not the profession... I started with this project in the hope to uncover who my 3rd Great Grandfather John Henry Baker (born est. 1822)'s ancestors are and how they ended up in South Africa.

Throughout my research, I quickly realized that not all Bakers are related. Some were part of the 1820 Settler parties. Some only arrived during the 1860's. Some were British and some Irish. There is one record of a Robert Baker that received permission to stay in the Cape Colony before 1820.

I welcome any South African Baker descendant to take part in this discovery.
