Waldo County, Maine is a county in the southern coastal part of the state, situated along Penobscot Bay, Belfast Bay, Gilkey Harbor, and Seal Bay. As of the 2010 census, the population was 38,786. Its county seat is Belfast. The county was founded on February 7, 1827 from a portion of Hancock County and named after Brigadier-General Samuel Waldo, proprietor of the Waldo Patent.
The islands of Waldo County are home to some of the country's oldest and most exclusive summer colonies. The county is also home to the Carlton Pond National Waterfowl Production Area.

The racial makeup of the county in 2010 was 97.1% white, 0.4% Asian, 0.4% American Indian, 0.4% black or African American, 0.2% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Those of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 0.9% of the population. In terms of ancestry, 24.4% were English, 17.1% were Irish, 9.2% were German, 8.1% were American, 5.7% were Scottish, and 5.2% were Scotch-Irish. In 2000, 97.1% spoke English and 1.5% French as their first language
