This project is a meeting place for users who share the H5a2 Mitochondrial DNA haplogroup, which means they are related along their maternal lines. Users in this group may want to share their family trees with each other to find overlaps and merge duplicate profiles in order to join or expand the World Family Tree and discover new relatives.

For people who have tested and are assigned the maternal haplogroup H5a2 or who are believed to have had that maternal haplogroup based on descendants tested.

Maternal haplogroup H5a2 is found mostly in Central (Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, Slovakia, Hungary, Italy) and Eastern Europe (Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Moldova, Bulgaria), in Fennoscandia (Finland, Estonia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway), and in a lesser extent in the Iberian peninsula (Portugal) and Great Britain (England, Ireland). Its age is between 800 and 8900 years (Bahar et al. 2012). It is defined by the mutation C5839T.
