The Bunning family I am descended from originated in the Lincolnshire, UK town of Market Deeping. My great-grandparents, George & Maria Bunning, had 9 sons and no daughters that we know of. In 1904, at the age of 16, my grandfather, (Herbert) Norman Bunning, boarded a ship called the Ionian and came to North America. The ship came to Canada where my grandfather joined the Canadian military. As an adult, he met my grandmother, Joann Scott, near Detroit Michigan where her family had settled after emigrating from Scotland. They settled their family in Indianapolis, Indiana sometime in the early 1900's. We believe that 1 or possibly 2 of my grandfathers brothers ended up in Australia, as records indicate that at least 1 of them, Joseph Lambert Bunning, served in the Australian military. Norman and Joann had 1 daughter, Mary, born in 1924 and 1 son, John George Bunning in 1929.
