Lydia King (nee Hosken) was my great grandmother. According to a cousin of my late father, Lydia was the daughter of an iron founder from Lands End, UK. An email message placed in 2004 on the website ancestry.co.uk from one person in Australia, Helen Ferris, corroborates the marriage at St. Luke's Church, Chelsea, London, and I have a handwritten copy of the certificate. This shows the father as being "Samuel Hosken (deceased)" and his trade as being an iron founder, but I cannot find any other documentation to link these statements conclusively. There is significant information to show that Lydia came from a large family - she was one of many siblings - but no home location. Many of the brothers emigrated either to South Africa or Australia, but I cannot establish a complete list of them. Confusingly, other members of the family emigrated to Brazil, and some possibly to the USA. Another confusion is created because many children with the same surname were given identical Christian names as well! I am aware of strong Hosken connections with the west Penwith area of Cornwall, and with Shoreditch, also in London.
