7876. John Liptrot639, born Abt. 1615 in England639; died Unknown.
Notes for John Liptrot: "LIPTROT The English family name Liptrot is classified as being of personal name origin. According to scholars the "oldest and most pervasive type of surname is that derived from a given name." Such family names may be derived from a parential first name or from the font name of the grandfather or indeed a more remote ancestor of the original bearer of the surname. With regard to the family name Liptrot, it indicates "son of Liptrot," an ancient first name of unknown origin believed to be derived from the Old English words "lieb" meaning "dear" and "trut" meaning "beloved." Variants of the name include Liptrott and Liptratt. One of the earliest references to this name, or to a variant, is a record of one Richard Liptrot, of Louton, who is listed in the Wills at Chester in 1601. However, research is of course ongoing and this name may have been documented even earlier than the date indicated above. The birth of Samuel Liptrot, son of Roger Liptrot and Ellen, is recorded in Upholland, Lancashire, in 1690 and Peter Liptrot and Mary Crompton were married in Bolton-le-Moos, Lancashire in 1694. The marriage of Penelope Liptrott and John Oldknow is registered in St. Mary, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire in 1741. This name was introduced to North America as early as 1676 in which year we find a record of the emmigrate Charles Liptrott, who sailed to Maryland. The name, in any variant, could of course been first introduced to that country at an earlier date." ...source: from a relative, but name lost.
