Matusevich is an original Polish and/or Belarusian surname. Formed on behalf of Matvey (Mateus). The surname appeared in the territories of modern Poland and Belarus in the 16th century. In the 17th century, the surname was widespread. It is not necessary to think that all Matusevichs are relatives, this, of course, is not so (as for any surname - patronym). This family name was mainly used by Catholic families. At the same time, Matusevich Uniates (Orthodox) met long ago (at least from the middle of the 17th century). In the 19th century, the name began to be actively used by representatives of the Jewish population of the Russian Empire.
