In 1738, Donald MacEachern with his wife, Anna McDonald and child Catherine departed from The Island Of Islay, Scotland with the Lochlan Campbell Expedition. Upon arrival, the spelling of the name was changed to McEachron probably as a clerical error. In the late 1700s, one of his 24 grandchildren, Daniel, moved to Canada and changed the spelling to McEathron (we do not know if it was deliberate or, more likely, another clerical error). So far, we have not found an individual with the McEathron spelling that is not a confirmed descendant of Daniel and Mary (Beech). The same can be said for all those with the McEachron spelling with the exception of a family group from Jamaica whose oral family history indicates they took their name from a Scottish plantation member.
