My Munitz family came from the town of Dokshitz (Dokszyce in Polish, Dokshytsy in Belarusian) a mostly Jewish shtetl (small town) located in the Borisov district, Minsk province of the Russian Empire when the family emmigrated around 1900. The town is now in the country of Belarus, and is located 112km North of the city of Minsk.
Hyam Mendel Munitz, the eldest son of his generation, left Russia and went directly to Buenos Aires, Argentina. His parents and all of his siblings came to the United States through Ellis Island, New York by 1912. Many moved on to settle in Akron, Ohio and later Los Angeles, California. Some family members moved on to Israel after 1948.
