Syftestad, a centuries old farm, recorded in 1585, lies at the mouth of a small stream, has one of the best forests in Nissedal, and includes the northern edge of the iron mining area. The altarpiece in the nearby church was built in 1372. Olav, born 1780's was the seventh known owner in direct linear succession. His son Tellev was the next proprietor.
