The name Zwang is German. It means 'force' or 'compelled' In the 1700's in Germany, all families were required to select a surname. Previously they did not have one. This is the reason that there are so many 'Rosenblums' or Von (from) -whatever location.
When it was our forbearer's turn to go in front of the magistrate to select a name, this individual said (in German) 'because I am being compelled to have a last name, I will choose the name 'compelled.' In this manner everyone will know that this court and you the magistrate were the 'jerks' and negative reason that we now have this last name.
