Benedict was one of the first 40 settlers of Wyoming, Pennsylvania. He held a commission as lieutenant in the French and Indian Wars.

"Stonington 5 Dec 1772, then rec'd of Samuel Satterlee, son to Lieu t. Benedict Satterlee, eighteen schillings,

lawful money for his admission into the company of military adventure rs, for his Father's Right. He his father having

given & granted his Right as Lieut. in the late war - to his said so n, & I promised to have his name enrolled in said company's book."

He served as serg't in the French and Indian War, 1755, 1756; as 2d lieut., 1758; as 1st heut., 1759 (French and Indian War Rolls, 1:15, 101 & 2:63, 69, 170 and Conn. Colonial Records, 11:98, 229). He was one of the first forty settlers of Wyoming, Penn., and was lieutenant of militia there. His son, Samuel, succeeded to that office, Dec. 5, 1772.
