The Queen of Soul was born on March 25, 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee. The daughter of Barbara and Clarence LaVaughn Franklin, Franklin began singing as a small child in the church choir and by the age of 14, she made her first gospel recordings.

After her initial success in gospel music, Franklin signed on to a major record label which catapulted her career and earned her worldwide fame. Some of her biggest hits include ‘Respect,” “I Say A Little Prayer,” and “Think.” One of the best-selling artists of all time, Franklin won a total of 18 Grammy Awards and was the first female performer to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

She died on August 16, 2018 at the age of 76.
