Profile of the Day: Edith Piaf
This month marks the 50th anniversary of French singer Edit Piaf‘s death. Remembered as one of France’s greatest international stars, Edith became known as “The Little Sparrow” throughout her life because of her nervous energy and small stature. She became a popular performer in France during World War II and after the war, her international fame spread quickly.
In 2007, her life’s story became the subject of the film La Vie en Rose starring Marion Cotillard, for which she won her first Oscar for Best Actress.
