Eli Whitney

On January 8, 1825, inventor Eli Whitney died of prostate cancer just one month after his 59th birthday. Considered one of the key inventions of the Industrial Revolution, Whitney’s cotton gin revolutionized the way cotton was harvested. His invention reinvigorated slavery and profoundly impacted the economy of the Antebellum South.
