Margaret 'Molly' Brown

On July 18, 1867, first class Titanic passenger and philanthropist Margaret “Molly” Brown was born in Hannibal, Missouri. Dubbed “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” by historians, Brown became famous for surviving the Titanic disaster. Her acts of heroism made her the subject of many Titanic legends. She famously took on an oar herself in her lifeboat and protested for the crew of Lifeboat No. 6 to return to look for survivors. Later in life, she used her fame to promote issues she felt strongly about, including women’s suffrage and workers’ rights.
