Maya Angelou

Today we remember legendary poet, writer and civil rights activist Maya Agnelou, who has died at the age of 86. Beloved and admired by many, Angelou made literary history when she published her best-selling memoir, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, in 1969 and became the first African-American woman to have a non-fiction best-seller. She was a prolific writer, penning more than 30 books, and received numerous awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011. An inspiration to all, she will be remembered as one of the great voices of contemporary literature.

RIP Maya Angelou (1928 – 2014)
