On December 17, 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright made the first successful man-powered airplane flight near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The Wright brothers grew up in Dayton, Ohio and showed an interest in flying at an early age. With Orville as the pilot, the brothers’ aircraft remained in the air in a controlled and sustained flight for 12 seconds.
