Simón Bolívar

On July 24, 1783, Venezuelan military and political leader Simón Bolívar was born. Together with José de San Martín, Bolivar played an instrumental role in the South American fight for independence from the Spanish empire. In 1825, the Republic of Bolivia was created and named after the inspirational leader, hailed by many as El Liberator (The Liberator).
