Profile of the Day: Wilbur Wright
Do you have any aviators in your family tree? On April 16, 1867, Wilbur Wright was born in Millville, Indiana. One half of the famous Wright Brothers, Wilbur and his brother Orville had shared a passion and curiosity for flight at a young age. Together they invented the world’s first successful airplane, making the first successful man-powered airplane flight near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina on December 17, 1903.
The brothers always shared credit for their inventions and remained close throughout their lifetime. Wilbur would later serve as president of the Wright Company, and foresee all business operations. In April 1912, Wilbur fell ill on a business trip to Boston. He was diagnosed with typhoid fever and died a month later in the Wright family home in Ohio.
