Hi, I´m looking for persons murdered in Auschwitz (Moritz Stiglitz, his wife Anna Stiglitz (born Lehrfeld)? Is there any list? I have tried yahvashem.org, jewishgen.org, no trace of them. :-( I have no idea where else I could look. I know they were deported in May-June 1944 from Roznava, Slovakia.
Thank you very much!

Hi Private User - Clearly, I read that you tried Yad Vashem. That of course would have been my first suggestion. When there, did you try alternate spellings of their names and perhaps search without a location?

This is what was returned to me when I searched just by the last name: http://db.yadvashem.org/names/nameResults.html?lastNameAdv=Stiglitz...

Not sure if that's helpful or not.

Private User Remember the spelling of the name may be slightly different than the version you are used to seeing either due to an error in transcription, the person who wrote it down originally, changes over time, etc. Also, their first names may be different as well so look for corresponding date and locations and you may find a "best match" versus an exact match.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

The official German site is also quite helpful in these matters: http://www.bundesarchiv.de/gedenkbuch/directory.html.en?result

However it doesn't find anything this time. I did a lot of different searches, incluidng just searching for the first few letters...

Private User In addition to checking possible name spelling variants, you can also check with the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. They have a survivors and victims database that you can start with.

You can also contact the Holocaust Survivors and Victims Resource Center directly to submit a research request (they have a digital copy of the ITS-Arolsen archives that have been scanned and other documentation). Note that response times can vary due to the high volume of requests they receive: http://www.ushmm.org/remember/the-holocaust-survivors-and-victims-r... and http://www.ushmm.org/remember/the-holocaust-survivors-and-victims-r...

Another possibility is to submit an online request directly to the International Tracing Service (ITS) in Bad Arolsen. With them, response times can vary as well to the high number of requests they receive: https://www.its-arolsen.org/en/inquiries-by-family-members/tracing-....

I hope you find the information you seek.

Hi Ivica,

The Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum has its own database containing every person that has perished in the camp.
You may find your relatives there as well:

Thank you Dan, I have already checked out link you posted, but my family is not listed there. Some people - witnesses said, there were deported to Auschwitz but there is no trace of it. They were deported in June 1944...

Private User My relative Lotte Freund was also deported to Auschwitz, from Berlin in 1943, and she does not appear on a list from Auschwitz itself. My understanding is that those sent straight from the train to the gas chambers were not recorded as "prisoners"; they were considered to have never entered the camp. People also died in the cars during the journey itself without being recorded.

The Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum has a database with only 10% of individuals that perished in the camp. The majority of documents have been destroyed by the efficient German machine of that time.
