For the correct, or most plausible ??, answer, forget Wikipedia. It just re hashes older "knowledge" that has since been proven unreliable. Take the time to read the articles by Darrell Wolcott, that I have posted, with links, in the "Overview" section.

But in a nutshell, Elen would have been born c. 285. Maxen Wledig, Magnus Maximus to the Romans, was born c. 340, 55 years later, so they could not have been married. Mexentius, c. 279, is a much better fit.

Understanding the Welsh genealogoies requires the use of a suitable timeline, and the seperation of people that are often conflated, as in this case, and, in deed, in the case of Elen, who is often conflated with St. Elen, mother of Constantine the Great, and the true Elen Llyddog.
