Revolutionary War Hero's Grave Found
Shrine Society To Hold Services In Old Cemetery
The newly found grave of William Critchlow in Butler, Pa., was to be decorated today by members of the Society of the National Shrines of the American Revolution.
Critchlow, youthful soldier mustered out of Butler During the Revolutionary War, played a heroic part in the Battle of Saratoga.
He returned to his farm after the war and died in 1830. But with the death of his widow and sale of their lands, all record of the burying place of the soldier-hero was lost.
It was not until a few weeks ago that members of the shrine, searching Butler County's private burying grounds, located the grave. It is a cross-marked stone under a cherry tree not far from the Critchlow School in Butler.
Spouse: Margaret (Horton) Critchlow
