Text of article in "The Sunday Herald" of Sunday 23 August 1953, reads:
"Man Drowns In River At Penrith. Alexander Beadman, 30, Riley Street, Penrith, was drowned last night when a boat overturned on the Nepean River at Penrith. Beadman went fishing in a rowing-boat with Neville John Pratt, of Brown Street, Penrith, and Eric Weidesweiler, of Union Road, Penrith. Police said they were told Beadman moved from the front of the boat to the stern. It upset the balance of the boat, which overturned, throwing the three men into the water. Weidesweiler clung to the upturned boat while Pratt swam ashore. Beadman, who could not swim, disappeared. Penrith police will search for Beadman's body to-day.
FEARED DROWNED NEWCASTLE, Saturday. —Theodore Towns, 67, of Moscheto Island, is believed to have been drowned in the Hunter River to-night. Towns's rowing-boat was found upside down in deep water off Dempsey Island, about two miles from the mouth of the river. Late to-night police found an overcoat and an oar on the shore near where the boat was found. Another oar was floating 100 yards away"
