Published in "The Sunday Herald" of Sunday 23 August 1953:

"FEARED DROWNED

NEWCASTLE, Saturday. —Theodore Towns, 67, of Moscheto Island, is believed to have been drowned in the Hunter River to-night.

Towns's rowing-boat was found upside down in deep water off Dempsey Island, about two miles from the mouth of the river.

Late to-night police found an overcoat and an oar on the shore near where the boat was found. Another oar was floating 100 yards away."
