Biography

Abel Stout, son of James II and Jemima Stout, was born 1734 and died August 24 1797 in White Oak Springs, Augusta, Virginia.[1]

Abel Stout served as a Private in the Revolutionary War in the Middlesex County, New Jersey militia[2]which is cited in Bill Stout's Rootsweb Tree.[3] In addition, the Find a Grave memorial has a copy of the information and names him as a soldier[4]

Abel Stout served as a Soldier for Virginia State. He was born 1740 in Amwell, Hunterdon, New Jersey. [5]

In Culpeper Co. VA, on November 3, 1769, Able Stout and Ephraim Hart witnessed the will of Robert Slaughter Jr. (1702-1769) of Culpeper Co., a prosperous planter who, in his younger years, had been a church warden of their parish church.
It is likely Abel and Ephraim were spreading their faith.
The Stout family were strong Baptists, having founded the Hopewell Baptist Church in Hunterdon Co. NJ. When Roberts’ son Robert III moved to Kentucky, they immediately affiliated with the Baptists there.

In 1767 he married (1) Williampe Wyckoff b. December 16 1750 and died after 1782.[6][7][8][9]

Abel and Williampe Wyckoff settled with the Wyckoff family in Loudon-Culpepper County, Virginia in 1783. Reuben Stout and his wife gave Jacob, Abel's son, a farm and Isaiah had a 1200 acre farm near Monticello.[10]

Abel and Williampe Wyckoff Stout were the parents of:

1 Isaiah b. Jul 8 1768
2 Jacob b. Oct 23 1771
3 James b. Apr 7 1770
4 Mary "Polly" b. 1773
5 Lydia b. 1776 m. George Gray
6 Elijah b. 1777
7 Williampe b. 1782 [11]

After Williampe's death he married (2) Elizabeth Armstrong born 1753 and died February 28 1842.[12][13]

Abel and Elizabeth Armstrong Stout were the parents of:

8 John b. 1785
9 Elizabeth b. 1787
10 Samuel H b. Feb 23 1791 m. Sarah
11 Jonathan b. 1795.[14]
