Biography

Children of Sergeant John Phelps (b 15 February 1651-2) and Sarah Buckland:

Abigail Griswold was born 11 August 1689 in Windsor Township, Hartford, Connecticut. Her parents were Joseph Griswold and Mary Gaylord. She married Josiah Phelps on 21 June 1711 in Windsor and they had 7 children. She died about 1720. Josiah married again about 1721, Sarah _____. She died on 4 May 1733 and is buried at Poquonock Old Burying Ground, wife of Josiah Phelps. (See #43 Josiah Phelps, pages 1289-90, "The Phelps Family of America.")

The Griswold Family Book: Abigail was the daughter of Joseph, the granddaughter of Edward Griswold. She was born in Windsor, Connecticut on 11 August 1689. She married Josiah Phelps who was born in Poquonoc, (Windsor) on 17 February 1679/80. He was the son of John and Sarah (Buckland) Phelps.

Children by 1st wife, born in Windsor:

• Sarah, b. 14 January 1712; died young
• Josiah, b. 14 November 1714, m. Elizabeth and probably died without issue. His will dated on June 11, 1781, leaves the property to his wife Elizabeth, and to Aaron and Enoch, sons of his brother Aaron. The will of widow Elizabeth Phelps is dated on October 27, 1783; it mentions: “my brother Israel Negers.” Hartford Probate.
• Aaron, b. November 19, 1716; m. Mercy Kent.
• Moses, b. 1718.

• Sarah, b. March 1723; d. 9 August 1725
• Ruth, b. August 1726
• Abigail, b. March 11, 1727; m. Elijah Loomis

Josiah Phelps, b. Poquonock, Connecticut on 17 February 1679-80, married on 21 June 1711, married Abigail Griswold, daughter
