About Abner Tharp
Abner was the third child and second son of Nathan and Sarah Tharp. He was one of the first three children who were born in South Carolina. His parents then moved to Logan County, Ohio where the final three children were born. Abner was a wagonmaker by trade. He and his brother Henry both married Moots sisters and moved to Davis County, Iowa, circa 1840, settling there while Iowa was still a territory. (Iowa became a state in 1846.) Abner was 22 and Sarah Moots was 18 when they married. They had five children in West Liberty, Logan County, Ohio; one child born in Memphis, Missouri; the remaining five children were born in Savannah, Davis County , Iowa. Abner died at the young age of 44, five months before the birth of his last child, Christine. Sarah continued to live in Savannah for ten more years before moving to Ogden , Utah to live with Christine. All of Abner's children lived to adulthood and his wife was 93 when she died.
