About Abraham David/Daniel Korenthal
- Updated from Ancestry Genealogy by SmartCopy: Oct 28 2015, 1:54:45 UTC
-The original family name had many variations depending on how it was spelled in records indexed on JewishGen.org, on Ancestry in the ships manifests, naturalization paperwork, censuses, draft registrations, birth, marriage and death records, and on FamilySearch.org, which has more detailed indexes and some images.
Korenteier, Kornteier, Korentajer, Korentayer, are only a few of the variations. The name was never changed at Ellis by anyone. Each family member who arrived separately or some who arrived two at the same time, traveled with the spelling listed by the ship company when they bought their tickets.
Ultimately the majority of the original family settled on the name Korenthal, around 1915. One of Abraham's sons, Meyer, used several variations of Korentur. While the actual reason is not known, it might have been because there was a man named Mayer Korenthal, apparently not related to the family, who was close in age and lived in New York at the same time.
