As Captain Abram Fulkerson he commanded a company of Virginia Militia in Colonel David Sanders Regiment, 4th Brigade, Norfolk Division of General Peter B. Porter, during the War of 1812. Abram moved to Grainger County, Tennessee in 1835 and continued pursuit of farming. He was a Justice of the Peace for a number of years, and considered a man of high esteem in Grainger County.
