ALEXANDER KNOX OF SELVIELAND

Alexander Knox of Selvieland is the son of William Knox of Selvieland. Kilbarchan, p. 227 His elder brother Archibald succeeded to Selvieland, probably before 13 June 1620, although he was not served heir to his deceased father until 25 May 1624. Inquisitionum, Volume 2, retour number 63 Following the death of his father, Alexander became next in line to inherit Selvieland. He is identified as the fiar of Selvieland in a bond dated 13 June 1620 and apparent of Selvieland in another dated 3 December 1622.The Knox Family, p. 254

Selvieland is Sold

Alexander Knox of Selvieland sold Selvieland before 6 March 1627, to Simon Brisbane of Middle Walikinschaw and his wife Susanne Walkinschaw. Register of the Great Seal of Scotland, A. D. 1620-1633, charter number 1046 on page 370

Death

A death date has not been identified for Alexander Knox of Selvieland. He appears to have been alive when his wife Helen Dalmahoy died in May 1642 and he may still have been alive when her testament dative was confirmed at Glasgow on 11 August 1642.

3 December 1622: Bond by Alexander Knox, apparent of Selvieland, to William Govane, bonnet maker, burgess of Glasgow, for 100 merks, and with him are Marcus Knox, merchant burgess of Glasgow, and William Knox, merchant there, as cautioners. Dated at Glasgow 19 december 1622. The Knox Family, p. 254

Registration of assignation by Margaret and Helen Hill, daughters of the deceased Ninian Hill, merchant burgess of Glasgow, and Harry Brysonn, merchant burgess of Glasgow, spouse of the said Margaret, and Helen Hutchieson, their mother, as tutor to the said Helen, narrating that Thomas, Bishop of the Isles, has by his bond dated 13 June 1620, borrowed from the said Ninian Hill, on behalf of them, his said daughters, 1000 merks, and Alexander Knox of Selvieland, then fiar thereof with the deceased Marcus Knox, burgess of Glasgow, George Knox, of Kincowell, in Ireland, and James Finlay, were cautioners with him: and seeing the said Alexander Knox of Selvieland, Thomas Knox, lawful son of the said Marcus, and James Finlay have paid up the bond, they assign the same to them, dated at Glasgow 26 May 1630. 6 March 1627: A charter issued under the Great Seal of Scotland by which the King confirms possession of the twenty shilling land of old extent of Selvieland in the barony of Renfrew to Simon Brisbane of Middle Walikinschaw and his wife Susanne Walkinschaw. Selvieland had previously been resigned by Alexander Knox of Selvieland. Register of the Great Seal of Scotland, A. D. 1620-1633, charter number 1046 on page 370

6 February 1633: Charter by which Uchtred Knox, fiar of Ranfurly, confirms that he has given a liferent to his wife Issobelle Fairlie, daughter of Robert Fairlie of Braid, from the ten pound lands of Ramferlie-Knox in the barony and sheriffdom of Rennfrew, the ten merk land of Ardmanuell in the barony of Bochlyvie and sheriffdom of Stirling, with half the mill and mill lands called Ridburne-mylne and the forty shilling lands of Ladyland in the Stirlingshire parish of Kippen. Uchtred had the consent of his parents, John Knox of Ranfurly and his wife Annabelle Blair. The charter was witnessed by Alexander Knox of Selvieland, and James Fairlie, brother german of Robert Fairlie of Braid.
