About Alexander Hayward Stevens

Alexander Hayward Stevens passed away December 28, 1997. Born November 20, 1912, in Bloomington, Idaho, to Ermen Alexander and Ellen Hayward Stevens. Married Mary Goff in 1938; later divorced. Married Florence Nightingale Jeppsen in 1956; his beloved Florence preceded him in death in 1966. Married Verda Lova Nelson, November 4, 1967. Alex acquired a great big family when he met and joined in a 30 year journey with Verda and her nine surviving children. This was a union both of love and companionship. They enjoyed fishing, outdoor activities and their quiet times sharing the scriptures and enjoying football on TV. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, reading, photography, golfing, playing the harmonica, and most sports. From all the step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren, he was very much always grandpa and always there beside his loving companion and wife.

Survived by wife, Verda Stevens, West Valley City; daughters, Marolyn Cross, Greenbelt, Maryland; Shirley (Orlan) Longmore, St. George; Sandra (Joseph P. Shull, Kirkland, Washington; Rosemary (Rudolph C.) Svetal, San Jose, California; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Wilson (Janice) Stevens, Salt Lake City; Mazie (Galen) Cundick, Bountiful; Laura (Olin) Evans, West Point; Velma Berrey, Pocatello, Idaho; stepchildren, Robert H. Colvin and Barbara Edelstein, Illinois; DelRay J. Colvin, Sandy; Donald W. (Rachel) Carter, Salt Lake City; Verdean (Margie) Carter, Kearns; Duane E. Carter, Magna; Rosanne C. (Edward) Turner, West Jordan; Hilmer Lee (Vel) Carter, Syracuse; Frank N. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m. at the Granger 23rd Ward, 2850 West 3835 South. Friends may call Tuesday, 5-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Wednesday at the church, 9-9:45 a.m. Interment, Farmington Cemetery.
