James and Sarah were married in 1888 or 1889, after the death of his first wife, Letitia Jeanette Bee Stevens. Alexander married Mary Rae Baker at age 22 in 1912 in Springfield, Lane, Oregon. Alexander Stevens, age 82, of 1735 Adkins Street, Eugene, passed away December 30, 1972. A resident of this vicinity for over 60 years, he was born November 20, 1890, at Safford, Arizona, and was married to Mary R. Baker August 31, 1912, at Springfield, Oregon. Mr. Stevens was a member of the First Christian Church of Springfield and had been a mail carrier prior to his retirement. Surviving besides his wife, Mary of Eugene, are 4 brothers: John, Rex, Bert and Ed Stevens all of Washington and a sister, Laura Thomas of Lavina, Montana; numerous nieces and nephews. Private funeral services will be held at the Burns-Fredericksen Funeral Home, Springfield, Wednesday, January 3, 1973, at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Earl Gibbs officiating. Private interment Rest Haven Memorial Park.

In the 1900 U.S. Federal Census for Clarks Fork, Carbon, Montana, Alexander, 9, was living with his parents and siblings listed as follows: James, 43, Sarah A., 37, James R., 18, Letitia J., 16, Laura, 6, John Milan, 5, Edson, 3, and Agnes Emma, 9 months old. Also in the home were Sarah's sons from a previous marriage: Buran Moody, 17, William C. Moody,15, and Theodore H. Moody, 13. Alexander's grandfather, Alexander Roswell Stephens, 66, was also living with their family. James R. and Letitia J. were the children of James and his first wife, Letitia, who passed away May 31, 1888. James was working as a farmer and his son, James R., Jr., was working as a farm laborer. James and Sarah had a daughter, Sarah Alsea Stevens born December 6, 1890 in Thatcher, Graham, Arizona, but she passed away about a month later on January 12, 1890.

In 1910 they were still living in Carbon County, Montana, James, 53, Sara A., 48, and their children: Alexander, 19, John Milan, 15, Edson, 18, Agnes Emma, 11, Albert E., 8, Rex R., 6, and Alexander's widowed father Alexander, 77 was still living with them. James and Sarah had been married for 21 years and had 12 children, 11 of whom were still living. James was still farming and his son Alexander, was a laborer on the home farm.

Two years later, Alexander, 22, married Mary Ray Baker, 19, in Springfield, Lane, Oregon, in 1912. She was born July 25 ,1893, in California When Alexander completed his U.S. World War I Draft Registration Card on June 5, 1917, in Springfield, Oregon, he described himself as being of medium height and build with gray eyes and dark brown hair. He was 26 years old, having been born November 21, 1890, in Thatcher, Arizona, and was working as a farmer for himself. He indicated that his wife was dependent upon him for her support, but he did not claim exemption from the draft.

In 1930 Alexander, 39, and his wife, Mary, 36, and her parents, Ira W. Baker, 74, and Frances Baker, 73, were living on 18th Street in Springfield, Lane County, Oregon, and Alex was working as the proprietor of a feed store. His father-in-law Ira was working as a chicken farmer. In 1940 Alexander, 49, was still living with his wife, Mary, 46, and her parents, Ira, 84, and Frances, 83, and Alexander was still working as the manager of a feed store. They were still living in Springfield in a home that Ira owned valued at $2,000.

When Alexander Stevens completed his U.S. World War II Draft Registration Card in 1942, he was 51 years old, having been born November 20, 1890 in Safford, Arizona. He was living on 18th Street in Springfield, Oregon, with his wife, Mary Rae Stevens, and their telephone number was 660. He was self employed working a5 442 Main Street, in Lane, Oregon.

Alexander passed away at the age of 82 on December 30, 1972, and was buried in the Rest Haven Memorial Park in Eugene, Lane County, Oregon. His wife, Mary and passed away June 14, 1982, in Springfield, Oregon, and was buried with her husband.
