About Alexander Stewart, 2nd of Grandtully
Biographical Summary
"Alexander Stewart, who first held Grandtully as a separate estate, appears to have been a person of considerable position. He was the cousin and shield-bearer of Archibald fourth Earl of Douglas, afterwards Duke of Touraine, in France. On the resignation made by his father, Sir John Stewart, Lord of Lorn, Knight, he obtained from the Earl of Douglas a charter, dated 30th March 1414, of the lands of Grandtully, Kyltullyth, and Aberfeldy, in the Abthanery of Dull. The Earl styles Sir John his beloved cousin. The charter bears that the resignation had been made in the presence of the Duke of Albany, Governor of Scotland. The lands were to be held by Alexander Stewart and the heirs-male of his body, whom failing, by his father, Sir John, and his heirs whomsoever...
...Alexander Stewart having thus been provided to Grandtully, married Margaret Hay, sister of John Hay, Lord of Tullibody, in the county of Clackmannan, who, on 15th July 1416, granted to him a charter, in which he is designated son of Sir John Stewart, Knight, Lord of Lorn, of the lands of Banchrie, in the baronry of Tullibody and shire of Clackmannan."

Notes
There is some discrepancy between materials as to whether to consider Alexander first or second of Grandtully. e.g. William Fraser identifies Alexander as second of Grandtully (Red Book of Grandtully), while Red Book of Scotland - Stewart of Grantully identifies him as the first. For this purpose, have aligned to Pedigree of the Family of Stewart of Grandtully outlined in the above mentioned Red Book of Grandtully.
