He married Vera Leese in 1931; they had two daughters, and were later divorced. He became a carpet and tile installer and worked for McCormick Rug Company in Topeka for many years. In 1944 he met and married Bonna J. Glessner from Alta Vista, and they had three daughters. They moved to Carbondale in 1947 and lived in their little house in the country west of Carbondale for 58 years. In 1965 they purchased and operated the Aaron's Home Store; they sold the business and retired in 1985. They moved to the town of Carbondale in 2005, then to Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, Kansas, in 2008. Al was a member of Carbondale Grange #754 for 56 years, and was involved at the county and state levels. Al and Bonna (Bonnie) became members of the Carbondale Community Church of Christ fifty years ago. He was an active member of the Carbondale Kiwanis and supported many youth and community organizations. He was passionate about the local volunteer fire department, was a member of the board, and was proud to be an Honorary Fire Fighter. Most of all Al was devoted to his large family.
