Amanda Augusta Gish

Some records say that Amanda was born in Oradell, Bergen, New Jersey. However, the census records say she was born in Iowa. I'm quite sure that Iowa is correct. Both her parents were born in Indiana.

In 1884, Amanda's half brother, H. F. Pickett, signed a legal document giving consent for Amanda to marry Andrew Gish. He stated that Amanda and her mother had abandoned each other about two years prior to that time, and that Amanda had been living with him for about 8 months. See his profile for the entire record. This rift must have been settled as the following items appeared in the Waterville Advance Newspaper under Anawauk news: December 9, 1885 "Mrs. :L. A. Haggins, a resident of Nebraska, is now visiting her daughter, Mrs. A. S. Gish, and will probably remain during the winter." February 10, 1886 "Mrs. L. A. Haggins returned to her home in Nebraska the fore part of last week."
