Ann Kirke, the wife of William Garrett, was born in England, 19th of March, 1642, and died, and month, buried in Philadelphia on the 7th, 1721.

  1. Anne, born at Hose, Leicestershire, 12th month 4th, 1668; buried, 9th month 10th, 1672.
  2. Mary, born at Hose, 9th month, 1670; died,'nth month 16th, 1703; married Abel Noble.
  3. Samuel, born at Harly, Leicestershire, 5th month 7th, 1672; died, 1st month 4th, 1743-4; married, 1698, Jane Pennell (born 5th month 13th, 1678; died 6th month 27th, 1736), daughter of Robert Pennell and his wife Hannah.
  4. Hannah, born, 4th month 23rd, 1674; married, first, George Emlen; and secondly, William Tidmarsh.
  5. Sarah, born 4th month 23rd, 1676; married Randall Croxton.
  6. Alice, born 4th month 24th, 1678; died, 1701; married Joseph Pennell.

Before leaving England Ann's husband, William Garrett, a webster (weaver), purchased 500 acres land in PA by deeds of Aug 9 and 10, 1684 from John Lobe, a Bristol land speculator. The land was afterwards located in Willistown township. William and Ann left to permanently settle in Pennsylvania, along with his friends Samuel Levis, John Smith and Robert Cliffe, from Bristol, England in Aug 1684 aboard the ship Bristol Merchant under the command of John Stephens. They all carried a joint certificate from the Friends Meeting in Harby, Leicestershire dated 20 Jul 1684 and presented their joint certificate to a meeting of Friends held at "The Governor's house" in Philadelphia on 4 Nov 1684.[5][6][7]

On 10 Nov 1686 at the house of John Blunston, Ann Garrett, along with her sister-in-law Ellen, witnessed the marriage of James Hunt and Elizabeth Bonsall. She was an overseer appointed by the Darby Monthly Meeting to make sure that the marriage was conducted in accordance with the good order of the Society of Friends.[8]

Ann died or was buried 7 Apr 1722 in Philadelphia.[9][10]
