Augustus S. Stone

The various censuses report that he was born in Kentucky (1850) or Virginia (1870). He might have been a relative of the Elizabeth Stone, who married a William Horn.

In 1850, Augustus Stone was living in the 3rd District, Atchison County, Missouri, in the household of Jane Roundtree. He is shown as a farmer, age 18. If this age is correct, then he was 12 years younger than his wife.

In 1860 there is a concentration of Stone families in Andrew County, Missouri, but no Augustus Stone. There is also no Augustus Stone in the 1860 censuses of Iowa, Kansas, Missouri or Nebraska.

In 1870 he was listed as A. S. Stone, age 37, a farmer with $1,000 in personal property. He was 11 years younger than his wife Nancy.

The 1880 census shows him as as age 46, a widower and a farm laborer living in the household of W. P. Watson.
