Barbara Mudie is the daughter of Francis Mudie of Melsetter. The Moody Book Kirkwall in the Orkneys: 200 Her mother is not clearly identified in the Moodie Book but if, as is suggested there, she was married to Patrick Balfour of Gairth before 1622, then she must be a daughter of Francis's first wife Margaret Stewart.
