About Benjamin Eaton

Benjamin was said to hav been at the capture of Louisburg in 1745 and is probably the benjamin Eaton listed with first cousin David Eaton in Capt. John Goffe's Co at dover in Dec 1746. It is also said that the this Benjamin dwelt Where Richard and Eben Fowler were living about 1860 on the northwest corner of Washington and collins St. Thus he probably spent his life a few rods from his father's homestead. He dealt in modest degree in real estate, where he is described as a husbandman 0r Yeoman. Tracts were mainly local ones of salt marsh and upland including Lot #17 in the Gravelly Ridge Division. embracing his Seabrook neighborhood. Like his father and older brother John, he appears on 21 consecutive tax lists of Hampton Falls (1747-1767) just before Seabroook was established as a separate town. Over this period, his tax rates reflect a major surge in taxable wealth after 1752, and he arrived at well above average prosperity by the 1760's, matching that of the Walton Rd. line of Eatons out of Ephraim and outdistancing all of his male siblings and closer cousins by a wide margin. He succeeded his brother Johnas Constable in Seabrook's second yr and occupied a few other minor town posts. He left a will Dec 1784 distrubuting his lands and chattels across four sons, with the homestead going ito the youngest Samuel Perley Eaton then 18 not to be possessed until he was 21. He and Jane had five children in Proto-Seabrook.
