About Benjamin Herr

Benjamin Herr was born in Adams county, Pa, July 30, 1847 and died October 25, 1927, age 80 years, 2 months and 26 days.

When he was a child he emigrated from Adams county, Pa with his parents, who settled in Elkhart county, Indiana and he has been a resident of Elkhart county since that time.

In December 1877 he was married to Caroline Smeltzer, who preceded him in death July 25, 1911.

To this union were born twelve children, one daughter, Addie, died in 1896, aged ten years, and Elizabeth died in infancy.

He is survived by ten children, 8 sons and 2 daughters, Oscar, Roy, Leander and Clarence of Nappanee, Charles of near Wakarusa, Lester, Floyd and Mrs Alice Searer of South Bend, Elmer of Lakeville and Mrs Minerva Searer of Glendive, Montana.

One brother, Christian Herr also survives.

He also leaves to mourn his departure 19 grandchildren.

He was a kind and loving father and his loss will be keenly felt by all his children. Always fond of children he was particularly attached to his grandchildren.

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. David Miller, assisted by J W Christophel at the Union Center church Friday forenoon. Interment was made in Union Center cemetery.
